P&L questions - checking a number you doubt
How to verify any P&L figure down to its components.
Every line on the P&L chains: net revenue = sales + promotions - refunds; gross profit = net revenue - cost of goods; then Amazon fees, then advertising, then expenses. If a line looks wrong, walk its chain:
- Open the breakdown ("More" on the P&L page) - the full waterfall with itemized fee lines, refunds, and ad spend by program.
- Check the settled percentage. A period below 100 percent settled contains estimated fees that will true up when Amazon's next settlement posts.
- Click into a product row. The drawer shows the same waterfall scoped to that product or family, and notes exactly how it relates to the table row (the drawer subtracts refunds that the table lists in a separate column).
- Check your cost data. Gross profit depends on the unit costs you entered - a product with no cost recorded shows its coverage in the COGS coverage figure.
Your AI assistant can do this walk for you: "verify the June net profit figure" will pull the same components and show the chain.
